Message de Juan Carlos Salazar
Secrétaire général de l'OACI
ICAO’s great privilege to once again provide its partnership and support for this 6th edition of the Model ICAO.
Launched in 2014 by the ICAO Council, this unique United Nations (UN) model format helps the next generation of multilateral and aviation leaders learn about and appreciate the unique diplomatic processes and dynamics of our UN specialized agency, which have been refined and matured over almost 80 years of expanding multilateral engagement.
Conducted and managed by the Société québécoise de droit international, the Model ICAO also importantly helps to promote the cooperative values informing the motivation of States to share their skies and connect our world, and deeper recognition of the profound international consensus which has resulted from their efforts to achieve such an extraordinary and complex objective.
This 2023 Model ICAO will be composed of 140 Delegates from Canada, France and Belgium, and I’ve been greatly impressed by the challenging topics which have been established under this year’s committees. All of them focus on topics which are high on States’ lists of priorities, but I would emphasize that the results of our 41 St Assembly last October have also placed an especially strong global focus on addressing every possible opportunity to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 for international aviation
operations.
On behalf of ICAO, its Member States, Delegations and the Secretariat staff who will be assisting with your engagements, I wish to thank you for your interest in everything which makes global aviation possible, and wish you all a very compelling and rewarding 2023 Model ICAO.
